Join us for our next instalment of ROOTS; a live music series featuring the most diverse and unique underexposed talent London has to offer, set to spice up your mid-week, for only 5 pounds a ticket.

On Wednesday the 17th of April we bring you an unforgettable evening of sonic exploration, where two worlds of jazz converge, featuring Compound Chemistry and Sevde, two bands who seamlessly fuse tradition with innovation. That’s not all - Compound Chemistry will be releasing their album THE NEXT DAY, so our event offers you the chance to be among the first to experience their album, first-hand.

Line Up:

Compound Chemistry is a fusion project whose name does justice to the music they make. A product of divergent music influences and backgrounds, this is where jazz and prog music meet and create their own identity. After over a year of shows in Portugal and The UK, the trio are releasing their debut album on April 18th and have a European tour scheduled from June 23rd to July. Compound Chemistry is inspired by bands and artists such as George Benson, Daft Punk, Led Zeppelin and Tigran Hamasyan and can be seen as the perfect son of Hiromi and Julian.

The album: ‘Compound Chemistry’ is an 8-track record that spans genres from prog metal to fusion jazz. With 7 original songs and 1 cover of ‘Walk On By’ by Isaac Hayes, the entire album takes the listener on a mind-puzzling trip and a journey of emotions. Released on April 18th.

Sevde offers a unique experience, bringing soulful sounds from Istanbul to the vibrant Jazz scene in London. She aims to fuse culturally different music and create a unique intertwining musical experience for her audience, by creating jazz phrases combined with the melodies of the Sufi world and connecting with her audience.

Sevde spendt most of her time growing up in Ankara and Istanbul. After moving to London at 15, she was immersed in a cosmopolitan music scene. She developed an interest in modern jazz and wanted to combine her Turkish-influenced background with the London jazz scene. She is now on her journey to fuse Turkish and Jazz, embodying spirituality and exploring inner conflict, duality and emotional vulnerability with her audience. She plays alongside Sam Clarke on bass, and Thomas Dunk on drums.
