Grow is independent and grassroots with international impact. Local and emerging artists are programmed alongside international artists.
Since GROW opened our doors in 2014, we’ve hosted 250+ events each year and had over 150,000 people through our doors.
Young musicians have jammed with Abass Dodoo (Ginger Baker band), Japanese contemporary dancers and indigenous didgeridoo masters from Australia, to name just a few. Our artist partners credit the collaborations, regularity of exposure and payments as helping them hone their craft. ABOUT THE DJS
Shedding Histories returns to Grow for their first party of the year to celebrate three years of their parties, gigs and listening sessions. Bringing their usual dynamic and unique blend of underground sounds from across the globe, be sure to expect an open dance floor featuring, jazz-funk, pysch, reggae, Latin grooves and more! For this very special edition, they will be joined by exciting selectors and diggers Santa Leticia & Emanuel Pavlova.
Rooted in the sun-kissed lands of Andalusia, southern Spain, and now calling Newcastle upon Tyne home, Santa Leticia's sets showcase vibrant sounds from the Caribbean, Brazil, and across Latin America and Africa, all deeply infused with the essence of jazz, rare groove, funk, soul, boogie, and disco, genres that form the core of her musical identity, moving both your feet and your soul. Having performed at many wonderful parties and festivals such as We Out Here, the London Jazz Festival, the Beirut Groove Collective and many more, we cannot wait to welcome her to Grow.
Also joining the festivities will be the brilliant and unique Emanuel Pavlova who revels in discovering rare and relatively unknown music from across the globe. Harbouring a particular love for deep jazz-funk, soul and disco, expect to hear underground dancefloor grooves from Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Caribbean and more!

It’s cold, it’s dark, and January's calling you to hibernate – but we’re here to brighten things up! With the New Year resolutions underway and the Christmas bills rolling in, we know it’s not always easy to get out and enjoy yourself.
That’s why, for the entire month, Grow is opening its doors for free, bringing you a stacked lineup of events to beat the winter slump. We’ve got cosy corners, heated and covered outdoor seating, DJs and live music, and an array of soft and non-alcoholic options for all our Dry Jan friends, so you can enjoy the party your way without breaking the bank. Regulars at Grow over the last few years, Shedding Histories has progressed step by step into becoming a special event at Grow. They are a dynamic rare groove party set up by selectors Bena & Chameleonas. It has become known for its focus on creating an open-ended dance featuring diverse sounds from across the spectrum including jazz, psych, reggae, afrobeat and funk. Shedding Histories aims to tell stories through music by exploring sounds and their roots. Come with an open heart and mind, and you’re sure to leave enriched.
“People can expect an extended journey through multiple styles and sounds which should surprise and delight in equal measure. We like to be a little experimental but we always keep it funky at the same time.
January can be a tricky month for many both financially and mentally, and we feel at least one cure for this is getting out and moving on a dance-floor surrounded by kind and like-minded people. Shedding Histories are back at Grow and ready to host another unique journey through the eclectic and underground, with their dynamic blend of global psych, funk, jazz and reggae.
In this edition they will be joined by esteemed DJs and label founders Tim Garcia (Musica Macondo) and Chris Menist (Paradise Bangkok).
Tim Garcia is a DJ, Broadcaster and record Label Owner. His passion for sharing music saw him hold down a 5 year weekly residency on national radio station Jazz FM, followed by a show on Worldwide FM and most recently a weekly show on Rinse FM. With his label Musica Macondo he's put out a broad range of music from artists from Latin America, Africa, North America and Europe. Releasing music from Grammy nominated musicians and some of the best producers in the world of electronic music like Quantic, K15 and Osunlade. Behind the decks he has become known for his wide-reaching and broad taste, spanning Latin, Jazz, Hip Hop, House and Brazilian sounds.
Chris Menist is a writer, DJ and musician best known as the co-founder of the Paradise Bangkok label and band, alongside DJ Maft Sai. He co-curated the 'Sounds of Wonder' series with the Finders Keepers label, as well as the 'Sound of Siam' (Soundway) and 'Thai? Dai!' (Finders Keepers). He has additionally worked on compilations with Dust To Digital and Strut and records & performs as Awkward Corners.
Currently based in the UK, he hosts the monthly ‘Paradise Bangkok’ show on NTS and his DJ sets encompass a broad mix of reggae, soul, african, latin and asian sounds from across the globe.
Both Tim and Chris will be joined by Shedding Histories founders and residents Bena & Chameleonas, so make sure to join for what promises to be a magical evening of music and dance!

Join us for an electrifying session where eclectic selections will keep your head bopping and your feet moving all night long. Shedding Histories' very own Bena and Vandorta and Jamie Rosso guides us through a musical journey like no other!
Shedding Histories curator and Balamii radio resident and presenter, Bena curates an unparalleled mix of jazz, psychedelic, reggae and funk sounds from every corner of the globe.
An avid crate digger with a particular ear for all things funky, Vandorta has brought her eclectic musical tastes to esteemed London venues such as the Jazz Café and the Colour Factory; and has played festival sets at Gilles’s Peterson’s We Out Here and the inaugural Basket of Light Festival in Wales. Since 2019, she has hosted a regular radio show on Balamii Radio and has made guest appearances on NTS, Soho Radio and Vinyl Factory Live.
Jaime Rosso is a DJ and producer with a style reflecting a love for UK soundsystem culture and the golden-age house DJs of the US. Having learned the ropes as a resident for Balamii Radio, Stevie Wonderland and the vinyl-only Social Records Society, he’s played at esteemed clubs such as Corsica Studios, Peckham Audio and Electric Brixton as well as supporting the likes of Eris Drew, Marshall Jefferson and Awesome Tapes. His selections are melodic and groove based, balancing the accessible with the unexpected and always keeping at least one foot on the dancefloor.

2 YEARS OF SHEDDING HISTORIES WITH POLY-RITMO // JAZZ, LATIN, ZOUK, BRAZILLICA, FUNK
The Shedding Histories crew are back at Grow celebrating their 2nd birthday and the coming of spring, this time featuring incredible DJ and selector Poly-Ritmo
Known for her eclectic and genre bending sets, Poly-Ritmo has become a staple in the London underground scene playing percussive grooves from across the spectrum including jazz, Latin, zouk, Brazilica and funk from around the world. As a result, Poly-Ritmo has become a staple in the UK festival scene playing at spots like Glastonbury, Gala, We Out Here, Shambala, Lost Village and many more. On top of this, she is also the co-founder and creative director of the beautiful 'Basket of Light' festival, which has become known for its special musical and artistic approach.
So come and join Poly-Ritmo and the Shedding Histories crew for a unique evening of sonic explorations on an open and welcoming dance floor at the magical Grow Hackney!

SHEDDING HISTORIES W/ DONNA LEAKE (NTS) & EDNA (GOAT GIRL) TILL 3AM
Shedding Histories are delighted to announce their latest party featuring the incredible selector and broadcaster Donna Leake, for a special session going on until 3am.
Donna is one of London's most exciting and versatile DJs, known for her underground and left-field selections from across the musical spectrum, from jazz to psychedelia to Afro-funk. She joins us on the back of numerous headline shows across London and around the world, on top of her recent warm-up set for legendary hip-hop artist Madlib. To see her do her thing on Grow's intimate and open dancefloor will be an absolute privilege.
Warming up the outdoor, canal-side terrace will be the always groovy Edna. Hailing from Deptford, Edna is a musician, selector and community devotee. She cherishes vinyl because it inspires presence and engagement, whilst honouring the past. Never ruling out a particular genre, her selections are rooted in groove, covering hip-hop, dub, reggae, funk and jazz, bringing sunshine (and her love of dancing) to the club. Edna is also a Brixton Radio Resident, where she enjoys showcasing her record collection and interviews her favourite artists in an attempt to unearth their magic.
As always, these guests will be joined by Shedding Histories curators and residents Bena and Chameleonas, whose broad selections of sounds from across the globe always keep the dancefloor moving.

Our Spice Trail Menu is predominantly plant based, with some ethically sourced meat options, as part of our conscious drive towards sustainability. Our passion is for the cooking of the Middle East and southern Mediterranean so expect punchy flavours, warm spices and as always the best ingredients we can find to comfort and nourish the soul.
With our drinks, we partner with breweries St Austell and Signature Brew for our lagers and IPAs and serve organic wine and prosecco which help international wildlife charity, Born Free. We design our own drinks such as Vegan Hemp White Russian and homemade Hackney Spiced Rum.
