Wah Wah 45s returns to Grow with jazz, soul, dub, and reggae from Hekatones, joined by Resonators' Faye Houston & Kassia Zermon, plus DJ sets from Handson Family and label boss Dom Servini.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Hekatones is an instrumental quintet rooted in the style of ska, rocksteady, dub and early reggae, whilst bringing in far-reaching influences such as jazz, psychedelia and folk
from around the world. It's a new, original project from bassist George Berrills, and is a confluence of the many people and musical influences he has met along his journey. A founding member of dub group Resonators, Berrills has shared stages internationally with the likes of The Skatalites, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Jimmy Cliff, and Horace Andy. With numerous acclaimed releases with Wah Wah 45s and airplay on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6 Music and Radio 4, their music has been championed by the likes of David Rodigan, Huey Morgan and Craig Charles. Hekatones will be joined for the first time on a London stage by Resonators vocalists Faye Houston and Kassia Zermon, making this something of a reunion for some key members of the now defunct but hugely popular reggae outfit. This is going to be something very special.
The Handson Family make a welcome return to Wah Wah Live at Grow following their unforgettable DJ session twelve months ago. Husband and wife team Chris & Cyndi Handson's unique style of musical selections, mic technique, as well as sartorial elegance has led them to play DJ sets all over the globe in recent years. The pair are regulars at Gilles Peterson's We Out Here Festival, Jazz Re:Found in Italy, as well as hosting their own stage at Cross The Tracks in Peckham. Indeed, they never forget their roots, and play host to several regular parties in local hood - Peckham and Brixton in South London - supplying their effervescent and unique energy to keep parties jumping from daytime market events to all night raves. Miss them at your peril!
