Girlz B Like was birthed over seven years ago as a collective body which embodies female music producers, record label owners, recording artists, sound engineers, and of course DJs.
As the Creative Director and founder of this grassroots outfit, GBL has steadily carved out its own groove drawing loyal music discerners of quality Underground sounds: r&b Disco, Detroit techno, Boogie, funk, Gospel dance, Broken Beat, and other electronica rhythms and beats that club dancers also relish and appreciate.
The GBL objective is to highlight female selectors who take control of the music programming inside the DJ booth where guests Josey Rebelle, DJ Paulette, Katie Barber, Shy One, Nikki Lucas, Miss Vaitea, Jaidene Veda, Miss Soxee, Heddi Greenwood, DJ Dubois and more have already graced the decks and performed.

ILLASOUL W/ REEK0 & BEN HAUKE // HIP HOP, SOUL &
We are excited to announce a huge double bill with Reek0 from the Brighter Days Familyand a live set from producer Ben Hauke as they headline Illasoul on Dec 16!
Reek0
Part of the Brighter Days Family featuring the likes of Nia Archives, Izco, samtheman and dochi, the producer and MC is making a name for himself with an ever growing catalogue of hits.
Ben Hauke
Ben’s distinctly London identity fluctuates between house, broken beat and instrumental hip-hop. Always full of character and style, Hauke’s productions have seen him likened to Theo Parrish and Madlib, with an altogether physical approach to sound.
IIlasoul is a producer/DJ collective who will be running their next takeover at Grow on December 16th. Following on from a sold out event at Folklore earlier this year, and the very recent Charlie Stacey Jazz Jam collaboration at Notting Hill Arts Club, they look to end the year on the high with their next instalment. Joining us on the night will be two of Londons finest, Ben Hauke and Reek0, and of course the Illasoul DJs, supplying everything in between.

ROTATION POLICY W/ MEDLAR TILL 4AM // WORLD MUSIC, DISCO, HOUSE & MORE
We are back at Hackney Wick's Grow for another late night throwdown with one of London's top selectors.
Medlar’s musical world is a diverse one, and over more than a decade he has established himself as a key character in the London scene: most of his hours are spent making, buying, playing or talking about music, which lends him the sort of knowledge and understanding that stands him apart, and means he has a unique perspective that allows him to join the dots between sounds and scenes from yesterday to today with a real sense of narrative.
It was now a decade ago that this UK artist debuted his first release before starting his ongoing relationship with Wolf Music Recordings in 2012. His ‘Tererell’ track was a perfectly warm house cut with throwback New York chords and emotive vocals that never fail to connect with crowds. Since then he has evolved into a uniquely eclectic producer who has done lush, rough-edged house with Dan Shake, percussive workouts with Ishmael and plenty of solo, post-disco flavoured grooves that brim with synth colour and authentic cosmic energy.

Pouya’s music at Parasang is often inspired by the research he overtakes on each of the guests musical style and background. Musicians will be responding to electronic sounds by expressing themselves freely and extensively and often encouraged to try to accompany the electronically made melodies and rhythms by interpreting them liberally to a familiar pattern or a melody from their musical vocabulary and their folkloric aspirations.
During the pandemic, Pouya developed a system where he could continue playing with musicians remotely over the internet. The performances were streamed on Youtube and Twitch in Real-time. Watch Parasang Remote Series here

WOMEN IN SOUNDSYSTEM // SEDUCTION CITY SOUND // BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPECIAL
We celebrate women in soundsystem culture, with an event brought to you by one of the only female run soundsystems in the UK, Seduction City Sound.
We host a Black History Month special all day/night dance, covering reggae, ska, roots and much more.
£5 after 9pm
Seduction City founder Marilyn Dennis, aka Lady Banton, has over 34 years DJ/Selector experience and started DJ’ing in the mid-eighties in North London. Her early influences and mentors were watching sound men assembling their sounds during youth club sessions back in the early/ mid-seventies. Listening to female DJ’s like Ranking Miss P and DJ Elayne spurred her on into the game.
Lady Banton’s early DJ experience was with the ’80’s Ladies’ a DJ collective with three other female DJ’s. In 1989 Lady Banton went on and teamed up with another female DJ, Night Nurse to form the Mellotone Sound System. They played in and around north London, the usual house/club parties, christenings, etc but always had a dream to play at Europe’s largest street party Notting Hill Carnival.
Mellotone’s dream finally happened when they first secured their year to year spot at the Notting Hill Carnival in 1994 on Telford Road. Mellotone’s mission has always been to promote ‘women in dancehall’ and to bring authentic clean reggae dancehall to their audience. their highlight to date was supporting Queen Omega during her UK tour in 2004, they appeared on the main stage in Hyde Park at the Queen’s Jubilee which featured on the BBC six o’clock news.
In 2016, Lady Banton formed Seduction City Sound, continuing her journey in the sound system world. With the help of some veteran sound men/engineers, Lady Banton has welcomed Selectors Spice2life, Mc’s Alternating Current. Seduction City Sound has continued to gain its reputation at the Notting Hill Carnival during the August bank holiday weekend and Telford road is now affectionately known as ‘Jamaica Corner’ so if you are ever in town, come on down and catch the vibe.
Lady Banton continues to reach new horizons and in 2019 Lady Banton performed in Forest Uprising in London and in November 2020 Lady Banton also took part in the London Borough of Culture for Brent, Women in Black British Music. Watch this space as Lady Banton and her crew continue to break boundaries.
