Grow is independent and grassroots with international impact. Local and emerging artists are programmed alongside international artists.
Since GROW opened our doors in 2014, we’ve hosted 250+ events each year and had over 150,000 people through our doors.
Young musicians have jammed with Abass Dodoo (Ginger Baker band), Japanese contemporary dancers and indigenous didgeridoo masters from Australia, to name just a few. Our artist partners credit the collaborations, regularity of exposure and payments as helping them hone their craft. Those for come to Grow for the entertainment, food and drink experience a span of genres and together we celebrate diverse culture from around the globe to down the road.

Volta45 invites Sudanese afro-funk band The Scorpios for an intimate live session, followed by a dance floor takeover with his rare African records.
ABOUT THE NIGHT
London-based but deeply rooted in Sudan, The Scorpios fuse funk, afrobeat, and Arabic melodies into a hypnotic groove. Formed by Sudanese exiles in the ‘80s, the band now boasts a truly global lineup with members from the UK, Japan, and Jamaica. With performances at WOMAD, The Jazz Café, and major European venues, they’ve built a reputation for electrifying live shows. Their upcoming album, Lemon Barah, drops in late summer 2025.
Ghanaian DJ, record collector, and curator Volta45 is a force in global music, renowned for unearthing and sharing rare African sounds. His deep crates span highlife, afrobeat, and percussive grooves, earning him collaborations with labels like Soundway and Analog Africa. A festival favourite across the UK and Europe, Volta45 is a master of setting dance floors alight with his rich, soulful selections.

Limited Pre-sale tickets: £5, £7 (limited availability on RA). Free before 9 PM, the majority of tickets are on the door for £10 after.

There is no seating for the event but you can book tables up until 8pm in other areas of the venue to enjoy food and drink and still enjoy the event in the main area. If you don’t book in advance, arriving early is recommended as tables are on a first-come-first-served basis.

Get ready for an unmissable night at Grow Hackney as two legendary selectors, Volta45 and Joe Davis, bring their unparalleled musical knowledge and energy to the decks!
The cultural influence of Africa - from music, art, religion, film and social activities is very much ubiquitous in Brazil. This special dance will join the joining inextricable dots musical dots between Africa and Brazil. The poignant connection between samba funk and afro-disco, batucada and proto-house from South Africa. A lineup of great DJs will be taking us on an incredible musical journey via the best Brazilian and African sounds ever pressed
on to wax.
Joe Davis, the founder of Far Out Recordings, is a trailblazing DJ and vinyl enthusiast whose global record-digging and passion for Brazilian music have made him a powerhouse in the industry. Known for lighting up dance floors at iconic venues like Fabric and Ministry of Sound, Joe’s sets are a journey through the rarest and most vibrant grooves—think Brazilian beats, Latin jazz, broken beat, and everything in between. He’s worked alongside legends like Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge, and his expertise ensures every track is a dance floor filler.
Joining him is Volta45, the creative force behind The GoldenStool Project. Hailing from Ghana, Volta45’s dynamic sets are rooted in jazzy, percussive sounds from Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. A festival favourite, from Shambala to Turin, Volta brings an irresistible fusion of deep rhythms and rare grooves that keep the crowd moving from start to finish.
