GROW LIVE: TONY KOFI AND ALINA BZHEZHINSKA // JAZZ
Join us for an unforgettable evening of jazz as British saxophone legend Tony Kofi teams up with the extraordinary harpist Alina Bzhezhinska in a unique collaboration that transcends musical boundaries.
Since their partnership began in 2017, this remarkable jazz duo has mesmerised audiences with their seamless blend of ethereal harp sounds and soulful saxophone melodies. Their music draws on rich jazz traditions, but it’s their innovation and improvisation that truly set them apart. This concert promises to be a captivating musical journey, exploring the connection between seasoned mastery and fresh creativity.
Tony Kofi, a two-time BBC Jazz Award winner, has played with some of the greatest names in jazz, including Ornette Coleman and The World Saxophone Quartet. His powerful, versatile saxophone style—ranging across alto, baritone, soprano, and tenor saxophones—has made him one of the UK’s leading jazz multi-instrumentalists. Kofi’s performances are a masterclass in jazz expression, and this is a rare opportunity to experience his talent in an intimate setting.
Alina Bzhezhinska is one of the world’s leading harpists and a true innovator in contemporary jazz. Known for her genre-defying work, she has collaborated with top artists such as Kamaal Williams, DJ Spinna, and Shabaka Hutchings. As a soloist and with her HipHarpCollective, she’s performed at prestigious venues like the Royal Albert Hall, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Edinburgh International Festival. Alina’s fusion of classical harp with modern jazz, as heard on her critically acclaimed albums Inspiration and Reflections, has pushed the boundaries of what the harp can achieve. Their latest duo album, Altera Vita, will be released in 2024.
Supporting these luminaries are rising star Menelik Claffey on electric bass and drummer Matt Holms, whose dynamic performances provide the rhythmic heartbeat for this exceptional ensemble. Claffey's deep grooves and melodic sensibility, paired with Holms' energetic touch, perfectly complement the duo's artistry.
Don’t miss this unique fusion of established artistry and new-generation creativity. With enchanting narratives woven through every note, this is a night of jazz that will resonate with you long after the final chord is played.
